The Castellers

To know the culture of a people is indispensable immersion into popular tradition. Mas Castells is located just a privileged strategic location to drill down into one of the most deeply rooted traditions of Catalan culture: The Castellers.

To find the origin of these human castles, so connected to the town of Valls, we must go back to the early nineteenth century, the first colles castelleres (castellers groups).

Since that time, and for many decades, Valls was virtually the only venue for this magnificent cultural event, which is basically on his shoulders to lift as many people as possible to be crowned by the anxeneta, the child who climbs to high human castle to raise her hand in sign of victory.

Thanks to the perseverance of the people, the Castellers have become a tradition that lumps Back Sunday Sunday crowd of spectators in the main squares of towns.

An experience worth enjoying.
